Ascendant Copper Corporation is a Canadian company engaged in the exploration and development of primary base metal properties committed to increasing shareholder value by expanding our resource base through exploration and development of our current properties, forming exploration alliances with major and junior mining companies, and pursuing opportunities for the acquisition of additional primary base metal properties of merit throughout the Americas.
The Company has signed a definitive binding agreement to acquire all the shares of St. Geneviève Resources Ltd. (CNQ: SGVL). St. Geneviève holds several copper exploration properties and two past-producing properties in the United States, including the Zonia and Emerald Isle properties located in Arizona.
The Zonia Mine produced 33 million pounds of copper from 1966 to 1975. A recent National Instrument 43-101 (“NI 43-101”) Technical Report dated October 16, 2006 by Scott Wilson Roscoe Postle Associates (“RPA”) provides an independent estimate of an inferred resource of 63 million tons averaging 0.37% total copper at a cut-off grade of 0.25% total copper containing an estimated 460 million pounds of copper.
RPA also prepared a NI 43-101 compliant technical report for the Emerald Isle Mine property based on recent and historical drilling. The RPA report concludes that the property contains an indicated resource of 2.3 million tons grading 0.625% copper at a cutoff grade of 0.30% copper, containing 27.5 million pounds of copper. Behre Dolbear & Company Inc (USA) recently completed pre-feasibility study on the proposed operation.
The Company holds a 100% interest in two projects in Ecuador, namely the Chaucha porphyry copper-molybdenum property in southwestern Ecuador and the Junin copper-molybdenum-silver-gold porphyry property in northwest Ecuador. Ascendant also holds an option to acquire a 100% interest in the Telimbela copper-molybdenum grass roots exploration property in south/central Ecuador. The Company also has exclusive use of an extensive exploration data base developed for Ecuador by Rio Tinto Mining and Exploration Limited. [View News Release Here]
